New Soho Place theatre
Situated in London’s West End, some say it is more famous than New York City’s Broadway!
The construction included a brand new theatre, which has been its first brand-new purpose-built theatre in Soho in 50 years. It has been built on the site of the old Astoria Theatre, which was knocked down to build the new Tottenham Court Crossrail station. Soho Place will seat 600 people in the audience, up from the original 300 that was proposed in 2011. It will also join London as the third “in-the-round" theatre. This is a rate theatre configuration where the audience is placed all around the staff, as opposed to in front.
Soho Place will have 40,000 sq. ft of theatre space. There is expected to be some retail development, considering its location along Oxford Street, and there will be three floors of office space on top.
